A Blog For Socks the Dog
Well, it seems that our fearless dog, Socks, has regainded a bit of her youth this week, or she is going through a midlife crisis. To begin with, she has been more affectionate over the last week or so than she has been since we took ownership of her. She always has been with Sara, but with me, she couldn't care less, except for the last week or so. It seems she can't get enough time with me! Ok, but the story behind the title. Socks is a 10 year old Basengi that we inherited from our good friends Alan and Melissa last September. In dog years, she's a good bit along in age. She is by far no longer a puppy, and most of time just lays by the window or in her special cushions looking out the window. This week, however, was a bit different. Rainy season has started, which means the birds are out quite a bit now. We have a good size yard, which would be perfect for a young dog who likes to run around a lot, which does not describe Socks at all. Well, this past week, things changed. It seems that Socks just loves birds, and will chase them around the yard. Or at least that is what I thought at first. What she really is doing is going on a bird hunt. This week, she has lept and caught, and of course killed, three birds! After the first one, I thought that's ok, she will just eat it and it will be gone. But no, not our dog, she kills them and then stacks them up in the middle of the yard under a tree. So, today after catch and kill number three, it was my duty to properly bury, err, throw away, the remains of Socks' hunting adventures! Here is a picture of Socks, our fearless hunter!

I shared your last post with the kids, and they thought it was great. I am sure we will be hearing stories and questions about your bird-hunting dog for a long time now...
