The Sickies
Part of last week and this week we had the sickies. Somehow the girls caught Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease. It was definitly one I hoped the girls could stay away from and I didn't ever think they'd get it here in the States! Basically it consists of a fever and a rash normally in the mouth and on the hands and feet. Babies tend to get it on their bottoms too. Jordan started out with a not-so-normal looking rash on her bottom and then the next day she stuck her tongue out at me to show two blisters! She also had a fever. Later on she developed bumps and blisters on her hands and feet. The next day Keely had a fever and a spot on her mouth, but that was it! The weird thing to me that I didn't expect was that even after the fever was gone, bumps kept popping up! One of the spots in Keely's mouth was below her teeth between her teeth and bottom lip. It was really uncomfortable and hurt. I had called the nurse at our doctor's office when I first discovered Jordan's symptoms to verify my diagnosis, but then called again when Keely continued to be in so much pain with the bumps in her mouth. They told me to have her swish equal amounts of Benadryl and Maalox. It seemed to really help and she was able to eat after swishing it. SO if your child ever gets Hand, Foot and Mouth disease try the Benadryl/ Maalox concoction!
