Thumb Print Cards

It looks like I have found myself on an unintentional blogging and photo editing hiatus. This week has been so crazy that when I finally get on the computer it's late and I am too tired to do what I need to do. And then I have ah ha moments like right now... I really should be making name tags for the orientation group that comes in Monday. We have been running around like crazy people to get our physicals done for our visa and for going to the States in November, buying things for the move and running errands for our orientation and debriefing groups that will be here soon. Basically once students start arriving Sunday night, help from Jacob will vanish for around 17 days. The girls and I will still have a doctor's errand and some visa errands, but things like my physical needed to get down while Jacob was around. (I was there close to 3 hours...don't think the girls would have enjoyed that!)

On to what I wanted to share! (No wonder I don't get any sleep--I'm too long winded!) I found this idea for thumb print cards over at Teach Mama. I bought the thumb print animals book she talked about on her post.

When all of my supplies arrived, I started inking the girls thumbs!

And then placed their thumb prints just so.

Little Jordan didn't like to move her thumb in the way I wanted...but we made it work!

Then I added some marking with my little black pen.

We then had some cute little bunnies.

and frogs

and pigs!

My idea was to make thumb print cards for Keely's teachers to give to them the last day of school. After this trial day, I decided to go one step further...make the pictures have some meaning. The last unit Keely's class studied was numbers. For each number they learned a nursery rhyme or song to go along with it and did lots of activities and a craft.

1. Hickory Hickory Dock (The clock struck one.)
2. A rhyme about two birds Peter and Paul
3. Ba Ba Black Sheep (3 bags of wool)
4. 4 Little Speckled Frogs
5. A song about 5 little monkeys and a crocodile

On one note card we had 1 mouse. On another 2 birds. Another was a sheep with 3 bags of wool. Another was 4 frogs. And the last was 5 monkeys. As you can see we didn't get any pictures of the final gift, but they did turn out! By the end the girls got tired of me placing their thumbs all over card stock (each monkey took 1 thumb print and 4 finger prints!), but maybe I'll be able to get them to let me do a few more for gifts!

  1. Sara, I love it so much! You got a fantastic idea and these cards are valuable for me so much!! Especially when Jacob told me, the kids made it which made me so happy already. After that, I looked at it carefully and found its special meaning of the pictures, numbers that Keely learnt from the class and now I knew the process in details and their pictures through your blog. It's so touching. Thanks for your excellent blog. I love it...
