The Things I Learned Through Pictures

The day my camera got lost, I was frustrated. I was frustrated at myself because I trusted a 4-year-old with my camera. As we were searching for it, that fact seemed like one of the stupidest things I could have done. "Of course I'm searching for an hour for my camera, I let my 4-year-old play with it," I think to myself. However, if you follow me on Facebook, you would also know by the comment this little girl made today that she acts thirty some days. (She commented to me about how big Keely is getting -- that's something an adult says -- not the little sister)! I was also frustrated just at the fact that one of the things I use the most was lost! I hate to lose things, especially things that I grab throughout the day to capture some wonderful, sweet or crazy thing going on in my home. At least I wasn't frustrated about the possibility of losing pictures. I had downloaded the night before and had only taken five before my girls got a hold of it. The camera was found that night as I was getting in bed. It was under the covers! It appeared that it got laid down on my bed before I made it, and I made the bed over the camera! :-)

What is prompting me to write about the camera getting lost when it happened last Saturday and it's Friday night -- almost a week later? I finally downloaded this weeks pictures so I could do a blog post. I downloaded 126 pictures. My girls took 100 pictures on that Saturday. They took 69 pictures of the television while they watched the movie "The Lorax."

I learned a few things from those pictures.

1. Some things appear to be more photgenic to the 5 and under crowd than they would to me.
i.e. a TV screen with a movie playing
(Or maybe thay can just see the potential in those things better than me!).

2. The dramatic child in the family will do anything to get in a picture.

3. You better watch out what you do while your sister is taking pictures.

4. The pile of books that appear while they are being "sorted" makes my blood pressure rise even when seeing them in pictures.

The girls managed to document our morning much better than I ever have. Maybe if I can manage to not make the bed over the camera and freak out, they can do it again some time.
