We're going to take a hiatus from talking about all things moving! (I guess I've been stressed-- I just can't get enough sleep and Jacob says that's how I deal with stress -- which adds more stress because I can't get anything done!) So, let's talk about something fun!
Keely loves to do craft projects. They got termed as an "activity." I asked her one day if she wanted to do an activity and that is what she started calling our craft project time. Keely loves anything to glue. Things get busy and it's hard for me to make time prepare a craft project so I found a GREAT site I want to share. Sometimes I'll ask Keely what animal she wants to do and I can just search the animal. It also has alphabet tracing pages and acitivites for each letter... all kinds of things! We have done a lot of different things but I think one of her favorites (which we haven't gotten around to finishing yet) is this caterpillar.
(you can choose to do the rainbow colors or other colors like black, white, gray and pink -- that's the one we actually did!)You can print the projects out in black and white or color. Most of the time I have done color because Keely gets too excited about the gluing part that she can muster the attention to color! But on this one I did black and white and helped her at first with telling her which one to color which color. After that she started playing a "game" with it and would search for different colors of crayons (we have a big bag of misc crayons) and then looking for the right color to color. Each time I bring it out to work on -- it's taking me awhile to cut it (like I said I don't have a lot of time to do things ahead of time) -- she'll play her game. We should glue it together together soon!
I would love to hear your "actiivity time" idea that you do with your child(ren)!
thanks so much for sharing this! We're going to start our caterpillar this afternoon. I really want to get more activity oriented with my little guy. There are some things little things we do, but there are lots more if I could just get a bit organized.
ReplyDeleteI'm doing this 2 week spring cleaning endeavor right now. Once I get the house in top shape, then I'd like to get where I have a week's worth of activities ready to go. I think it should only take me 30 minutes on a Sunday afternoon to print and find activities. Thank goodness for the internet!

Sandra- I'll definitely check out those sites. And your plan to get things ready on Sunday afternoon is a great idea-- I'm glad you mentioned that! Once we get moved and organized, I think I'll make that a goal as well. We haven't done very well on activity time lately - so that would really help! Thanks for the ideas! (And I agree thank goodness for the internet!)
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love the dltk site--I have used it for years for Aidan. It is especially great for holiday crafts and activities.
ReplyDeleteI also really liked this site when Aidan was younger: http://www.letteroftheweek.com/
Lots of good pre-reading games, songs, bible activities, and crafts. He liked it a lot, and it's all there for you--not much prepping required. I will probably start doing some of the activities with Lucas soon.
WOW! That's a great site Morgan, thank you so much! Keely would definitely love that! I like the idea for the little ones too!! I'm really excited, thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteWe love to watercolor and paint. My favorite thing to do is to have the girls paint a real canvas every couple of months. Then we hang their art work in the hall. Madison loves pointing out her art work to people who come by. This last time I actually took pictures of them painting and put it w/ their art picture. GREAT MEMORIES. LOL! Meredith<><
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea too, Mere. Poor Keely, there are a lot of things we haven't done during the past 10 months of transition! We'll have to start painting soon once we move and get settled! That's a good idea to take pictures while they do it too! Fun!
ReplyDeleteHey! I came back to this post because I wanted to see what good ideas you gathered. I recently subscribed to productiveparenting.com.
ReplyDeleteThey send you a daily activity via e-mail according to the age of your child. You can decide how many activities a week you want to receive. (7 days or just 3 days, etc.)
