Calling All Decorators...PLEASE HELP!

I know we haven't moved yet but I'm trying to get some ideas for the girls' rooms. Yes, they are going to be in separate rooms. I hate to have to run 3 AC's at night, but I'm just going to have to pay for the extra electricity so everyone will sleep better! (That's a whole post in it's self). And yes by the time we move we will have been in 4 homes in 2 years (yes I'm counting the 5 months in the States) and we may not be in Taiwan long (but we may be) but my belief is that our home needs to feel like home and be our comfort spot.

First is Keely's room.

I bought Keely this bedspread thinking that it would allow us to do lots of things and wasn't babyish or childish. BUT it is really old looking and I REALLY need to liven up the rest of the room so that she will enjoy her room and it will look like a child's room.

We have used these curtains in the last two homes -- Thailand and here. I added the ribbon here to add length to fit the windows. They may not even fit in the new place, but I'm thinking we may need new curtains anyway. What do you think?

Below are a couple pictures of Keely's new room.

And here are some pictures I have found in hopes of inspiration!!

Let me start out by saying that things always look so much better in my head then in reality! And I have a difficult time getting what I see in my head out in reality too! So that's why I get nervous when I start trying to plan something like this out. In my head I'm seeing some tulle and some polka dots. Any ideas? Even if they don't involve tulle or polka dots! And please if you just rolled your eyes when you read tulle and polka dots -- stop me from doing something I may regret! We are planning on painting so any ideas on wall color is welcome also! HELP PLEASE, ANYONE?

  1. ooh, i like the ideas of polka dots and tulle! i think you could have lots of fun with the bedding and the curtains even if you decide to keep them. i like the darker pink in the bedspread for the walls, but i tend to pick the bolder colors, which isn't everyone's cup of tea. and, i really really like that end table with the tulle around it. i might have to steal that idea for eliana's room! i totally agree about making your house comfortable and a home for your family, even if you don't know how long you will be there. that is one of the best things we have ever done for helping our family adjust. Eliana loves seeing things go up on the walls and really identifies it as her home, the more i personalize. have fun and show us pictures when you get all moved in!!

  2. I am great at home organization, but I have no clue where to start when it comes to home decorating. I get ideas from The Land of Nod. I thought the "bubbles" on the wall could be easily done with paper or vinyl. That's a great solution for color if you can't or don't want to paint. Don't take too much advice from me. We've lived here for 3 months and I don't have a single thing hanging on the walls. ha!

  3. Carrie- thanks for the thoughts! Jacob really wants brown and I was thinking the lighter pink but I may go with the darker pink! Do you think light pink tulle (if I can find it) would look alright against the dark pink? Also, I don't think we'll be getting a round table but instead a 3 ft long book shelf -- do you think doing tulle along the sides would look good or goofy? We visited your home over 2 years ago I thought it felt so comfortable and home-like -- it really inspired me to work at making things homey. I'm going to try to be better at each home would move to! HA!

  4. Sandra- I never unpacked a box of decorative items like frames, vases and other things. So I guess this time around I'm trying to get that done right away! Your vibrant paint colors have definitely inspired me though! I'm hoping it'll help the white tile! Any good home organization tips? My thought right now is to invest in nice, big closets that I can customize and have a place for most things. It'll be a bit costly but I think will make us feel better to have a home for everything! I'll have to go check out The Land of Nod. You always have great website recommendations!!
